Every Mark Has a Purpose

More than a technique, this is a process of preserving stories. Through thousands of hand-engraved marks, Tyson Bandason creates artworks that honour memory, celebrate identity, and endure for generations.

A unique engraving method

My engraving technique is the result of years of experimentation, dedication, and artistic exploration. Developed in 2018, it transforms polished stone into detailed works of art through thousands of individually engraved marks. Rather than carving lines or relying on mechanical processes, I carefully build each image point by point, controlling light, shadow, texture, and depth to create lifelike portraits and expressive compositions. Every artwork is created entirely by hand, making each piece unique and impossible to replicate. This meticulous process, combined with the permanence of stone, allows each work to preserve stories, memories, and cultural heritage for generations.

From idea to lasting artwork

Every artwork begins with a story. Whether inspired by a personal memory, a commission, or a cultural narrative, I begin by understanding the subject and developing the composition. Once the design is finalized, I prepare the stone and carefully engrave the surface by hand, building the image through thousands of individually placed marks. Each stage requires patience, precision, and constant refinement as light and shadow gradually emerge. The final artwork is cleaned, finished, and inspected to ensure every detail reflects the original vision. The result is a timeless piece of art, created to preserve stories and endure for generations.

Preserving stories in stone

More than anything, I want people to understand that my technique is not simply a way of engraving stone—it is a way of preserving stories. Every mark is placed with intention, transforming a permanent material into a lasting record of memory, identity, and human connection. My work is rooted in patience, craftsmanship, and the belief that art should carry meaning beyond its appearance. I hope people leave with a sense of wonder, not only at the process itself, but at the idea that a single life, a shared history, or a meaningful moment can be preserved in a form that endures for generations.

"Tyson's work is a breathtaking fusion of ancient craft and modern artistry. Each piece tells a story, not just through its subject, but through the enduring spirit of its creation."
